The Rebels’ season ends at Pulaski County

The Boyle County Rebels, the recent 45th District Champions, headed down to Pulaski County on Wednesday to take on the Maroons. This was a tough draw for the Rebels, as Pulaski County beat them by 5 in the regular season. This was also a home game, adding to the Maroons’ advantage.

The Rebels came into this game with a record of 15-15, while Pulaski entered at 20-10, number three in the region. Coach Dennie Webb needed to get his players excited for possibly another huge win.

Pulaski County kept a steady lead throughout the first quarter, and they were up 18-13 after the first quarter.

The second quarter was a quarter of runs, Pulaski went on an 8-2 run and the Rebels responded with a 5-0 run of their own. Going into halftime, Pulaski shot very well and Boyle was in some foul trouble.

The second half was a different story. Boyle had no answer for Pulaski’s offense. The Maroons pulled away and won the game 71-44.

The Rebels had trouble scoring, with Quisenberry and Bodner leading with ten each. Seneca Driver and Demauriah Brown added nine a piece.

Pulaski County shared the ball well, led by Will Blankenship with 26 points on 7-14 shooting. Carson Fraley had 13, Zak Anderson had 12, and Gavin Cook added 11. Anderson led the team in rebounds with 12.

The Rebels end the season with a 15-16 record.

Rebels advance to the 45th District Championship Game

The Boyle County Rebels headed to Garrard Middle to take on the Lincoln County Patriots in a win-or-go-home scenario! The winner would play again on Friday, against DCA.

The Rebels started off hot, taking a 15-6 lead early in the first. Lincoln went on a small run, and Boyle lead 19-13 at the end of the first.

The second quarter was incredibly low scoring. Demauriah Brown hit his first four threes, with three in the first half. Montavin Quisenberry added 13 points, displaying some incredible athleticism. Blade Nuckols led Lincoln in scoring with eight points.

The Rebels played a great third quarter, with Demauriah Brown hitting his fourth straight three. The Rebels played stifling defense, forcing five turnovers in eight minutes. At one point, the Rebels led by 15!

Seneca Driver hit a tough post fade-away to get the last quarter started, and Guy Turner hit a HUGE three to get himself going for the first time in this game. This shot led to a huge confidence boost for him. Both teams went back and forth for the rest of the game, and the Rebels kept hitting free throws, with clutch shots from Avery Bodner, Turner, and Quisenberry.

The Rebels took it home, and won 60-46! They end Lincoln County’s season, and advance to take on DCA on Friday Night!

Demauriah Brown led the Rebels in scoring, with 20 points on 8/15 shooting. Quisenberry added 17 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Guy Turner added 10, shooting 5/6 from the line. Seneca Driver was a force in the paint, adding nine points and seven rebounds.

For the Patriots, Blade Nuckols had 28 points on 9/17 shooting. Cash Baird added eight, while the Horton Twins added seven points combined. Baird shot 3/12, and Quisenberry played some incredible defense on him.

The Rebels have a chance to win the 45th District Championship on Friday Night against DCA!

One final ride for the Lady Rebels

Last night, the Lady Rebel basketball team faced off against cross-town rival Danville High School for the second round of the 45th district tournament. These teams both came in 1-1 with each other and both wanted the win.

A win last night would have punched the Rebels a ticket to the 45th District championship and a spot in the 12th Region tournament.
The game started out slow, both teams struggling to make some baskets.

However, the Rebels held a small lead of at least 2 for the entirety of the first quarter. At the end of the first, the score was 10-8, Boyle leading. The Rebels quickly gained a four point lead, 14-10 and held it for a while. At the end of the half, the Rebels led 19-17.

The Rebels came out slower than expected in the second half, not scoring well. Though they fought, the Rebels were outscored in the second half. In the third quarter, a drive by Alana Quisenberry put the Admirals in the lead.

They ended up down 31-24 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter, unfortunately, just widened the gap between the teams. The Rebels ended up losing 42-29.

Sophomore Maggie Burke says, “We didn’t start out slow like we did when they played us at our place. But after half time, we came out and they went on a run. We laid down and didn’t fight as hard as we could have. It was a long season but we have come a long way in just one year. Although this season is over, I’m thankful I get to come back next year and do even better!”

The Rebels had a fantastic season and should be proud of all of their hard work. Congratulations Ladies!

Rebels win first Round of Districts

This past Monday, in the first round of the 45th District Tournament, the Rebels took on the Kentucky School for the Deaf. The two teams haven’t had a match-up since at least 2010.

Boyle did not play their starters in this game in order to keep them rested and healthy for the next match-up, Thursday versus Lincoln County. Boyle played many freshmen and sophomores, allowing them to gain experience and playing time.

The Rebels took a lead and never held back as they took a win over KSD 85-29. Boyle will take on district rival, Lincoln County, this coming Thursday at Garrard. The two teams are 1-1 with one another in the regular season. Stay tuned in to BCSN to keep up with the action!

Rebels fall to the Briar Jumpers

This past Tuesday, February 20th, the Boyle County Boys Basketball team took on a highly ranked Region team, Somerset.

Somerset has been noticed as one of the top teams in the Region this past season with a record of 13-7.

The Rebels just came off a tough loss to another Region opponent, Pulaski. They hope to take this game on and come out with a win for the second to last game of the regular season.

The Rebels ended up taking a loss 53-39 and shots weren’t falling from the field at 30% and behind the arc at 24%. Montavin Quisenberry had 14 points and Guy Turner had eight points to lead the Rebels.

Boyle took a tough loss to Somerset, but still has a chance to turn it around during the last regular season game next week against Taylor County.
