Carey started wrestling for Boyle County when he was in eighth grade and has practiced year round ever since to become a state placer his senior year.  Carey has taken the time to become a strong wrestler mentally and physically with over an 1000lb lifting total, weighing only 157lbs.

He also has great determination and leadership skills. Carey’s strong traits will follow with him as he continues his academics and wrestling over to Campbellsville.

Boys wrestling takes on KHSAA State Tournament

On Thursday and Friday, the Boys Wrestling team competed at the KHSAA State Tournament. The wrestling team performed incredibly well this season. The state tournament was no different, with six of the twelve qualifying wrestlers placing in the top eight of their weight classes!

Kaygen Roberts (132 lbs) and Micah Thompson (144 lbs) placed third in their respective weight classes, and Jackson Burger (190 lbs) took sixth place in his weight class. Senior Dakota Phillips (113 lbs) and Jax Crowe (175 lbs) placed seventh in their weight classes. Finally, senior Jaimen Carey (157 lbs) took eighth in his weight class.

For the seniors of the wrestling team, this tournament was the end of their Boyle County wrestling career. They exhibited hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout their season, setting an example for the underclassmen on the team.

Senior Jaimen Carey noted that the state tournament was “an opportunity for the seniors to show the results of their hard work throughout their careers.”

The senior wrestlers definitely did so, leaving their mark on Boyle County High School wrestling history.

Congratulations to the boys wrestling team for another great season. Make sure to follow the team next season!

This past weekend, the Boyle County girls wrestling team made history. The team made their way to the AllTech arena for the first official KHSAA state championship where the 114-pound 8th-grader, Lyla Smith became Boyle County’s first official state champ in girls wrestling.

Smith says, “We’ve improved very much since our last performance at state and I am very much pleased with our team.” Along with Smith, three other lady rebels made the podium:

  • Makayla fowler (132lbs)- eighth place

The Team all together did a fantastic job, coming in seventh overall with eight qualifiers. This is a great way to wrap up the girls’ season. With a start like this, we can only guess that this young team will continue to make history and break records for seasons to come.
