Track and Field shows out at CKC meet!

This past Friday, the track and field team participated in the Central Kentucky Conference Meet at West Jessamine. The team continued to perform at the highest level, giving them a boost of confidence going into the postseason.  

The boys team had a number of great performances! In the 100m dash, Eli Short placed sixth, with Brock Driver placing 10th. Driver also placed fifth in the 200m dash, running a time of 23.41 seconds.

JD Cooley continued his state championship run in the 400m dash, placing second with a time of 50.44 seconds. Additionally, Micah Brown and Diego Montoya placed 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 800m run. Max Germann placed sixth in the 1600m run and fifth in the 3200m run. Adam Cooper was close behind Germann in this race, placing ninth. Andrew Nason took third in the 110m Hurdles and fourth in the 300m hurdles.

The boys 4x100m relay team placed second and the boys 4×200 relay team placed seventh. The boys 4x400m relay team placed second. Seneca Driver took fourth in the high jump and Garion McPherson placed eighth. McPherson also took home a top three finish in the long jump, with Andrew Nason placing sixth in the event. Andrew Lockhart placed fifth in the Pole Vault. Landon Campbell placed seventh in Discus and fifth in shot put. 

On the girls side, Sharon Heist placed eighth in the 100m dash and 10th in the 200m dash.  Stella Thompson placed fifth in the 200m dash. Heist also placed sixth in the 400m dash, with Claire Combs placing eighth. Siddalea Gray placed ninth in both the 800m run and the 1600m run. Aubrey White placed eighth in the 3200m dash.

The 4x100m relay team placed seventh, and the 4x200m relay team placed eighth. The 4x400m relay team placed fifth, and the 4x800m relay team placed sixth. Abigail Heath tied for seventh place in the high jump.

Kendra Christopher placed second in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump. Stella Thompson was close behind, placing seventh in triple jump. Finally, Reece Klosterman tied for ninth in the pole vault. 

Overall, this was a great showing from the track team going into the Regional Meet. Make sure to come out and support the team on May 21st at Mercer County!

 

Track and field team shows out at the Mercer All Comers meet!

Last Tuesday, the track and field team competed in the Mercer County All Comers meet. The girls team won the meet and the Boys Team placed second! This meet shows some momentum for both teams as they approach the regional meet! 

  On the girls side, Sharon Heist scored in the 100m dash, placing sixth. The 4x200m relay team (Sharon Heist, Stella Thompson, Reece Klosterman, and Shelby Thompson) won the meet, running a blazing time of 1:54.15! One of our 4x100m relay teams (Maleeah Smith, Shelby Thompson, Lucy May, and Madison Lobb) placed third, running a time of 56.18 seconds. After these events, Lucy May won the 400m dash by nearly three seconds, running a time of 1:04.45. Siddalea Gray placed fifth, running a PR time of 1:09.34. Laykin Gatton won the 800m run, running a time of 2:45.62. Sharon Heist placed second in the 200m dash, running a time of 28.47 seconds. Finally, the 4×400 Relay Team (Maleeah Smith, Sharon Heist, Lucy May, Shelby Thompson) won, running a time of 4:39.30! Avery Jackson placed fifth in Shot Put, throwing 25 ft 2 in. Stella Thompson won the long jump, jumping 15 ft 3 in. Thompson also placed second in the triple jump, jumping 32 ft 11 in., earning her a PR and KY Top 50 honors. Maleeah Smith and Abigail Heath tied for third place in the high jump, jumping 4 ft 4 in. This was a PR jump for Heath! Reece Klosterman, Dani Ferrie, and Stella Feistritzer placed second, third, and fourth, respectively. 

On the boys side, Eli Short won the 100m Dash, running a time of 11.78 seconds. Seneca Driver placed fifth, running a time of 12.28 seconds. The 4x200m Relay Team(Eli Short, Brock Driver, Colin Lay, and Seneca Driver) placed second, running a time of 1:37.48.

The Boys 4x100m relay team(Andrew Nason, Garion McPherson, Brock Driver, and Eli Short) placed sixth. A 4x100m relay team composed of distance runners(Diego Montoya, Cannon Bostick, Kyle Whitsell, and Adam Cooper) competed as well, placing ninth!

Connor Young placed fifth in the 400m dash, running a time of 56.08 seconds. Andrew Nason placed second in the 300m hurdles, running a PR and KY Top 50 time of 43.12 seconds! Diego Montoya placed seventh in the 800m run, running a time of 2:13.76.

JD Cooley won the 200m dash, running a PR time of 23.33 seconds. Adam Cooper placed second in the 3200m run, running a time of 11:15.02. Finally, the 4x400m relay team (Colin Lay, Maximus Kilby, JD Cooley, Connor Young) won the meet, running a PR time of 3:38.66!

Landon Campbell placed sixth in shot put, throwing 39 ft. 8 in. He also placed second in the discus throw, throwing a PR distance of 122 ft. 4 in. Andrew Nason and Garion McPherson took second and third in the long jump, respectively. Nason jumped 19 ft. 5 in. and McPherson jumped 19 ft 1 in. Alan Wireman placed fourth in the triple jump, jumping 37 ft. even. Seneca Driver placed fourth in the High Jump, jumping 5 ft 6 in. Andrew Lockhart placed 6th in Pole Vault with a mark of 7 ft. 6 in.

Track and Field gains momentum for the outdoor season!

Last night, the Track and Field Team participated in the Mercer All-Comers and had many notable performances! This track meet was a great continuation of the outdoor season for the team. 

The boys team had many athletes place in the top five in their events. During the 100m dash, Eli Short took second place, Brock Driver took third place, and Andrew Nason took fourth place! In the 200m dash, Brock Driver placed fourth and Andrew Nason placed fifth. JD Cooley ran his second fastest time of the year, placing third in the 400m dash. Adam Cooper boasted a top five finish in the 1600m run, taking fifth place. The 4x100m relay(Andrew Nason, Eli Short, Brock Driver, Garion McPherson) won the event! Seneca Driver took second place in the high jump, and Garion McPherson took fourth. Andrew Nason took 5th in the long jump, with Mchperson taking fourth. Andrew Lockhart took third place in the pole vault. 

The Girls Team also boasted many top five performances. In the 100m dash, Sharon Heist and Stella Thompson took fourth and fifth, respectively. Shelby Thompson also placed fourth in the 200m dash. In the 400m dash, Lucy May took second place, with Sharon Heist taking third. In the 800m run, Laykin Gatton placed fifth. In the 3200m run, Boyle County swept the competition. Aubrey White took first, Lilly Kurtz took second, and Abby Brown took third. The 4×200(Sharon Heist, Shelby Thompson, Maleeah Smith, Stella Thompson) team and 4×400(Sharon Heist, Maleeah Smith, Shelby Thompson, Lucy May) relay team won their events, and the 4x800m relay placed second! Maleeah Smith placed 5th in the high jump, and Stella Thompson placed second in the long and triple jump! Dani Ferrie and Reece Klosterman took second and third place in the pole vault, respectively. Finally, Avery Jackson placed third in Discus. 

Overall, the girls team placed second and the boys placed fourth! With many outstanding performances, the team has kept the ball rolling for the outdoor season! The track and field team competes again on April 9th in the East Jessamine All-Comers. Make sure to come out and support the team!

 

Track zooms past KHSAA indoor state meet

On Saturday, the track team took qualifying members to compete in the KHSAA Indoor State Meet at Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center. The boys team placed sixth out of thirty-four teams, and the girls placed tenth out of twenty-four teams. Most notably, five indoor school records were broken! 

Junior Andrew Nason set the indoor school record in the 60m Hurdles. He ran a blazing time of 8.75 seconds, earning him second place in the meet. Nason also came in eighth place in the 60m dash, running a time of 7.23 seconds.

Sophomore Sharon Heist set the indoor school record in the 60m dash as well, running 8.69 seconds.

Senior Max Germann set the indoor school record in the 3000m. He ran a record time of 9:12, earning him third place in the meet. Germann also placed sixth in the 1500m run, running 4:19.

The girls 4x400m Relay Team (Sharon Heist, Laykin Gatton, Maleeah Smith, and Shelby Thompson) placed seventh, running a time of 4:40. Finally, the boys 4x400m Relay team (Connor Young, Colin Lay, Max Kilby, JD Cooley) set the indoor school record time of 3:42, earning them eighth place in the meet! 

The track team starts preparation for the outdoor season very soon! Placing high in various events has given the athletes a boost of confidence going into the outdoor season. Head Coach Kelly Sawtelle “Couldn’t be more proud of how everyone performed.” The outdoor track season kicks off with the Patriot Games at Lincoln County High School on March 23rd.

Boys wrestling takes on KHSAA State Tournament

On Thursday and Friday, the Boys Wrestling team competed at the KHSAA State Tournament. The wrestling team performed incredibly well this season. The state tournament was no different, with six of the twelve qualifying wrestlers placing in the top eight of their weight classes! 

Kaygen Roberts (132 lbs) and Micah Thompson (144 lbs) placed third in their respective weight classes, and Jackson Burger (190 lbs) took sixth place in his weight class. Senior Dakota Phillips (113 lbs) and Jax Crowe (175 lbs) placed seventh in their weight classes. Finally, senior Jaimen Carey (157 lbs) took eighth in his weight class.  

For the seniors of the wrestling team, this tournament was the end of their Boyle County wrestling career. They exhibited hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout their season, setting an example for the underclassmen on the team.

Senior Jaimen Carey noted that the state tournament was “an opportunity for the seniors to show the results of their hard work throughout their careers.”

The senior wrestlers definitely did so, leaving their mark on Boyle County High School wrestling history.
