The Rebels set a new bar for the fishing team

This past weekend, the Boyle County bass fishing team took three co-ed teams and two girls teams to the KHSAA State Tournament.

These teams qualified for state in the Region tournament a few weeks ago by placing in the top 18. Both girls teams only had to catch a fish to qualify, as the girls division is still growing. KHSAA State had 15 boats in the girls field.

Boyle has never won a KHSAA State Championship in fishing, so they were hoping to bring back the first in school history. Boyle had some of their best teams qualify with Coleman and Keenan Stewart, Cameron Owens and Brayson Claunch, and Kyler Cluanch and Riley Preston.

These teams have dominated for Boyle this whole year and offered Boyle the best chance of bringing back a trophy, as Kentucky Lake has been very tough to fish the past few years.

Coleman and Keenan Stewart took fifth place, Brayson Claunch and Cameron Owens took 17th place, and Kyler Claunch and Riley Preston took 38th out of 91 boats.

Allie Addison and Adailyn Courtney took sixth place and Ashlen Young and Lydia Turner took seventh place out of 15 boats in the girls division.

The state tournament wrapped up the Rebel fishing season for the school year. Good luck to all the anglers fishing this summer and the ones going to fish in college!

Bass fishing regional runners-up

This past Saturday, April 27th, Boyle took its top six teams in the co-ed division and their two all-girls teams to the regional tournament. The girls competed against a field of six boats and needed to catch a fish to make it to state. The co-ed division had around 80 boats competing for the top 17 spots to make it to state.

The Rebels took teams Keenan and Coleman Stewart, Brayson Claunch and Cameron Owens, Brent Christopher and Connor Young, Cameron Burchett and Josh Kernodle, Kyler Claunch and Riley Preston, Colin Wise and Emmitt Grubbs, Abigail Short and Allie Addison, and Ashlen Young.

Most teams struggled early in the day as not many fish were active and had  not moved shallow quite yet, due to weather conditions. Once it started to warm up, the fishing started to speed up. Teams caught fish shallow on beds mostly.

Boyle tried to bring home their first Regional Title ever in school history. Five of the eight teams qualified for state. B. Claunch and Owens took second place as the runners-up in the tournament, setting the record for the highest placing team from Boyle in the region tournament.

The Rebels that will compete in state are Owens and B. Claunch in second, K. Stewart and C. Stewart in fifth, and K. Claunch and Preston in 15th. In the girls division, Ashlen Young took third place, and Allie Addison and Abigail Short took fourth place.

Other teams were right on the cut line to make it. These Rebels will compete in state May 10th and 11th at Kentucky Lake!

Three signings to fish with Campbellsville!!

On March 13th, Coleman and Keenan Stewart signed with Campbellsville University for bass fishing. Despite being a small school, Campbellsville is well-known within the realm of bass fishing. Tony Miracle, the Coach of the team, brought many anglers with him to meet the two outstanding fishermen they would fish along for the next few years.

These two have excelled in both the classroom, the water, the diamond, and one on the football field. Coleman Stewart is a great student and he is also a key baseball player on the field. Keenan Stewart is a tri-sport athlete as he does fishing and is a key player on the diamond and football field.

Both of them transferred to Boyle in sixth grade and were looped into fishing. After some time on the water, both of them fell in love with it and soon started to focus on it throughout the next few years. Each of them takes every opportunity they have to go out on the water whether it is for a full day or just a few hours.

Congratulations to both Coleman and Keenan Stewart as they take on collegiate fishing!

Coleman and Keenan were not the only ones to sign that day. Right after their signing, Brayson Claunch, another notable fisherman for the Boyle fishing team, also signed with Campbellsville.

Claunch came to Boyle his eighth grade year from Mercer County. He was an instant stand-out in the high school fishing community as he was not afraid talk to anyone. He was able to gather information from his peers and had a lot of practice, becoming one of the top fishermen on the Boyle team.

Congratulations to Brayson Claunch as he continues his fishing career into college!

Good luck to each of these fishermen as they go on to Campbellsville to keep going with their fishing careers, and will become key parts to that team of anglers.

TSA takes home first Place in Video Game Design!!

This past week, Boyle County TSA traveled to the University of Louisville to compete in the state competition in many different areas. This took place from Monday, March 18th until Wednesday, March 20th. We had teams in PVC Kayak, Solar Sprint, On-Demand Video, and  Video Game Design.

We had many people join the club team this year and set a new record for the amount of people taken on the trip, which was 18. Many people had already had an idea and been in TSA, but we also had many new ones.

In the Solar Sprint, Cooper Adam came in third place and did very well as this is an on-site event and a new one. Sean Guiney, Daniel Leber, Micah Brown, and Sam Hackworth were on On-Demand video, which is a video made on-site with no former information. They took second place.

Video Game Design took a huge win in first place! Ethan Drake led his team of Eli Short and Alex Toth to a huge win for Boyle. They spent many hours and worked hard to win this category.

TSA had a great trip of fun and competitiveness against schools across the state.

Rebels win first Round of Districts

This past Monday, in the first round of the 45th District Tournament, the Rebels took on the Kentucky School for the Deaf. The two teams haven’t had a match-up since at least 2010.

Boyle did not play their starters in this game in order to keep them rested and healthy for the next match-up, Thursday versus Lincoln County. Boyle played many freshmen and sophomores, allowing them to gain experience and playing time.

The Rebels took a lead and never held back as they took a win over KSD 85-29. Boyle will take on district rival, Lincoln County, this coming Thursday at Garrard. The two teams are 1-1 with one another in the regular season. Stay tuned in to BCSN to keep up with the action!
