Bass fishing regional runners-up

This past Saturday, April 27th, Boyle took its top six teams in the co-ed division and their two all-girls teams to the regional tournament. The girls competed against a field of six boats and needed to catch a fish to make it to state. The co-ed division had around 80 boats competing for the top 17 spots to make it to state.

The Rebels took teams Keenan and Coleman Stewart, Brayson Claunch and Cameron Owens, Brent Christopher and Connor Young, Cameron Burchett and Josh Kernodle, Kyler Claunch and Riley Preston, Colin Wise and Emmitt Grubbs, Abigail Short and Allie Addison, and Ashlen Young.

Most teams struggled early in the day as not many fish were active and had  not moved shallow quite yet, due to weather conditions. Once it started to warm up, the fishing started to speed up. Teams caught fish shallow on beds mostly.

Boyle tried to bring home their first Regional Title ever in school history. Five of the eight teams qualified for state. B. Claunch and Owens took second place as the runners-up in the tournament, setting the record for the highest placing team from Boyle in the region tournament.

The Rebels that will compete in state are Owens and B. Claunch in second, K. Stewart and C. Stewart in fifth, and K. Claunch and Preston in 15th. In the girls division, Ashlen Young took third place, and Allie Addison and Abigail Short took fourth place.

Other teams were right on the cut line to make it. These Rebels will compete in state May 10th and 11th at Kentucky Lake!
