Girls tennis sweeps the Colts

On Thursday, the girls tennis team traveled to Nicholasville to take on the West Jessamine Colts.

The overall match started with Emma Young playing as the number one in singles, and the duo of Emily Messer and Hannah Bischoff playing as the number one in doubles.

Young took care of business, and won her bout 8-3. Messer and Bischoff also were able to handle their opponents, winning 8-2.

Next up was Kristine Tran in the number two singles spot, and then Emma Taylor with Katy McSweyn as the number two doubles. Tran ended her match quickly, and won 8-0. Taylor and McSweyn also won handily: they only dropped one game en route to their 8-1 victory.

The final match of the night was Matilyn Carlsen in the number three doubles spot. Carlsen did extremely well, as she won 8-2.

Overall, the Rebels beat West Jessamine by a score of 5-0.

Boys tennis takes down Wayne County

On Monday night, the Wayne County Cardinals traveled north to Boyle County to take on the Rebels in a very important region match. Last season, Wayne County had a doubles team advance to Round 32 at the State Tournament, showing that they have had some success in the past few years.

Starting out in doubles, the Rebels needed some wins. At number one seed doubles, Caleb Sutton and Jacob King cruised to a 6-1 6-0 win. At number two, Ethan Drake and Desmond Rapp won a good match 8-6, and at number 3, Spencer Costello and Lance Slone won 8-4.

In the singles action, Mason Young won a 90 minute match with a comeback, defeating Zach Hesse in a third set tiebreak 1-6 6-4 10-5. Sean Guiney lost a close match to Reese Jones, 6-7 3-6.

The Rebels won 4-1 overall, and are still undefeated in region play. They travel to Top Seed Tennis Club on Thursday to take on West Jessamine in the last match before Spring Break.

Girls tennis wins a close battle!

On Monday, the girls tennis team played a tough match against the Wayne County Cardinals.

Since this was a region match, the stakes were high. There were six singles matches played and three doubles.

For singles, Emma Young was the number one for Boyle. She got her match finished rather quickly, winning 8-0. Kristine Tran was the number two in singles, and she also got a win at 8-4. Emma Taylor was next up for Boyle, also getting a 8-4 win. The number four singles player for Boyle was Emily Messer. Messer struggled against a very strong opponent, losing 3-6. Hannah Bischoff got the Rebels back on track, winning her singles match 6-3. Finally, Adeline Germann was the last singles player for Boyle and lost a tough match 0-6.

At this point, the Rebels were up 4-2 on Wayne County. The next three doubles matches were going to decide who would win this regional battle.

The first doubles match was Bischoff and Messer. They came up against two strong opponents and lost 4-8. Emma Taylor and Emery Herron now took the court. They also lost with a score of 4-3, tying up the match at 4-4. It all came down to the final doubles game. Emma Young and Katy McSweyn were going to decide the fate of this match. Fortunately for Boyle, they played great and won 6-4.

Overall, the Rebels won the match with a score of 5 games to 4. This was a big win for Boyle, boosting the morale heading into more regional matches.

The next match is Thursday; they will be traveling to West Jessamine to take on the Colts.

The Yellow Jackets sting the Rebels

The boys tennis team took on their first loss of the season to the Woodford County Yellow Jackets a week ago on Tuesday, March 19. They played the Yellow Jackets away in Versailles and the Rebs lost, with a final score of 1-4.  This moves their season record to 3-1.

The match started off with all doubles. Caleb Sutton and Jacob King started a little slow, down 1-4. They slowly made a run to bring themselves back up to 4-5. However, after the long match, Woodford came out ahead winning 8-4. The night then continued with Spencer Costello and Desmond Rapp falling just short, losing 8-0. Then three seed doubles Lance Slone and Andrew Carr had a rough match. They fought hard, but ended up losing 0-8. Finally, at the end of the doubles, Cooper Jackson and Alosha McSweyn almost made a comeback, but fell short, losing 4-8.

Senior Mason Young was the lone winner that night, winning 8-1 over Morgan Hash. The game was difficult and Young fought hard to come out on top. Young said, “It was a tough match with rough conditions, but we all fought hard and played well considering the conditions.”

First loss of the season for girls tennis

On Friday, the girls tennis team took on the Russell County Lakers.

In the number one doubles, Emily Messer and Maya Smith just couldn’t get it to click, and lost the match 0-6. In number one singles, Emma Young also had a tough time, and lost a close match 4-6.

In number two doubles, the Rebels got their only victory of the day. Hannah Bischoff and Matti Carlsen came up big with a 6-0 sweep of Russell County. But in the number two singles, the Rebels were back in the losing column with a 5-7 defeat of Emma Taylor.  Talking about the win, Bischoff said “I am very excited to have gotten this win. Playing with Matti was a super fun experience and I can’t wait to get another chance to compete with her.”

Finally, in number 3 doubles, Emery Herron and Lauren Burdine dropped their match 4-6.  Boyle ended up losing to Russell County 1-4, making it their first loss of the season.

The Rebels will be back in action Tuesday against Woodford County.
