Boyle takes a tough loss against top-seeded Pulaski

The boys tennis team took a tough loss to the Pulaski County Maroons on Tuesday. They played the Maroons at home and lost with a final score of 4-1.

The boys started the match with singles. Mason Young started the night off by taking the first set 6-1, then dropping the second set 2-6. After a long two hours, Young came out on top winning a super tiebreak 10-8. Young ended by saying, “It was a hard-fought match against one of the best teams, I hope that we can build off this and be prepared for regions.” Then Sean Guiney had a tough match against Ben Hampton fighting hard, but falling short to lose 3-6, 2-6.

The night ended off with doubles. Caleb Sutton and Jacob King dropped their first set 3-6. Slowly starting to fight back, they made their way up to 3-2 in the second set, but couldn’t hold on and fell short 3-6.  Ethan Drake and Desmond Rapp followed up by playing a hard match but just falling short, losing 1-6, 3-6. Finally, Andrew Carr and Lance Slone fell short losing 1-8.

Boys tennis wins All-Rebel Showdown vs Casey

The Boyle County Boys Tennis team took on region powerhouse Casey County on Monday night. This was Boyle’s first match in a week due to weather and they needed to get back into the swing of things. This was by far the hottest match of the year, around 85 degrees. This made quite the difference in the matches.

Starting off in doubles, Boyle quickly took the advantage in number two doubles. Ethan Drake and Desmond Rapp won 6-1 6-3 in a great showing for the pair. This was followed by Lance Slone and Andrew Carr’s win, 8-1 at number three doubles. To end the night, Caleb Sutton and Jacob King played a marathon match and lost 3-6 6-2 1-10.

The Rebels split the singles matches. Mason Young lost 2-6 1-6 at number 1 singles, and Sean Guiney won 6-0 6-0 at the number 2 spot.

The Rebels have a quick turnaround, playing Pulaski County at home at 5:15 PM.

The Yellow Jackets sting the Rebels

The boys tennis team took on their first loss of the season to the Woodford County Yellow Jackets a week ago on Tuesday, March 19. They played the Yellow Jackets away in Versailles and the Rebs lost, with a final score of 1-4.  This moves their season record to 3-1.

The match started off with all doubles. Caleb Sutton and Jacob King started a little slow, down 1-4. They slowly made a run to bring themselves back up to 4-5. However, after the long match, Woodford came out ahead winning 8-4. The night then continued with Spencer Costello and Desmond Rapp falling just short, losing 8-0. Then three seed doubles Lance Slone and Andrew Carr had a rough match. They fought hard, but ended up losing 0-8. Finally, at the end of the doubles, Cooper Jackson and Alosha McSweyn almost made a comeback, but fell short, losing 4-8.

Senior Mason Young was the lone winner that night, winning 8-1 over Morgan Hash. The game was difficult and Young fought hard to come out on top. Young said, “It was a tough match with rough conditions, but we all fought hard and played well considering the conditions.”

Boys tennis sweeps Russell County

The Boyle County boys tennis team took on Russell County on a cold and rainy day Friday evening. This was an out of region test for the Rebels, and a good time to gain some confidence heading into a few huge matches in the next week.

In doubles, the number 1 tandem of Caleb Sutton and Jacob King won 6-1, and Ethan Drake/Lance Slone took a decisive 6-0 victory at number 2 doubles.

Singles were more of the same. At number one singles, Mason Young won 8-0, and Sean Guiney won 6-1 at number two. Finally, at number three singles, 8th grader Alex Godbey won a close 6-4 match!

“Our team fought hard through rough conditions with the rain and the wind,” said senior captain Mason Young. And the hard work paid off, winning the match 5-0!

The Rebels will take on a tough Woodford County team on Tuesday.

Rebels Sink the Admirals

The boys tennis team continued their winning streak over the Admirals on Thursday night. They played the Admirals at Millennium Park and won the match 4-1. The Rebels have started the season strong with 2 wins and no losses.

The boys started the night off strong with the singles matches. Mason Young had an exhilarating match at one seed singles against Dilbeck winning 6-2, 6-4. Then Sean Guiney followed up with two seed singles beating Hurley 8-1, putting the team in the lead 2-0.

Boys doubles matches were quick to follow. Andrew Carr and Lance Slone fought hard, but fell short losing 1-6 against Erwin and Wastell. Ethan Drake and Desmond Rapp followed that game up winning 8-2 against Strewick and Seamus. To end the day, Caleb Sutton and Jacob King won their match 6-3, 6-1, to put the boys further ahead.

The team won the match overall 4-1.

The Rebels play again on Friday against Russell County.
