Rebels Poach the Cougars

On Monday, the boys soccer team took on Somerset Christian in the first round of the 12th region tournament.

The game started out quickly, with Alan Wireman out-working the Somerset Christian defense and slotting the ball into the net. Then, Jackson Pass scored the second goal of the night, and doubled the Boyle lead. In the final minute of the first half, Matthew Britt got on the end of a corner kick and made the score 3-0 going into halftime.

The second half was more of the same, with JD Cooley scoring 2 goals in the span of 2 minutes. That was the last of the scoring, making the game end 5-0.

Asking Cooley about what was going through his mind when he scored the second goal, he said, “First I need to shoutout Andrew Carr for the great pass, and secondly I was glad that the goal really put the game to bed and finished Somerset Christian off.”

The Rebels’ next game is Wednesday vs Somerset, in the regional semifinals. Best of luck!

Dominance on Last Away Win for Girls Soccer!

On Tuesday night, our girls dominated their match against Southwestern on their last road game of the regular season.

“It was not our speed of play” were the words of reflection of senior Payton Bugg, when asked about the developing starting minutes of the game. Nevertheless, the girls woke up and managed to bury the ball 5 times into Southwestern’s net without a response.

This 5-0 win is a rather gratifying way to conclude their last regular season road game. After pointing this out to Bugg and asking for her thoughts on the matter, she calmly said, “Personally I was kind of sad last night…but walking off the field with a win was precious to me.”

A precious win as Bugg said, nothing less was expected from this amazing team. We wish our girls luck as they go into their last home match on Thursday night, against North Laurel, which will also be their Senior Night!

Boys Soccer Spears the Spartans

On Tuesday, the Boyle County boys soccer team took on the Sayre Spartans at home. The game started with a goal by Matthew Britt a little over a minute in. The Rebels did not look back from that point, winning with a final score of 6-0. Goals were scored by Bo Little (2), JD Cooley (2), Matthew Britt, and Alan Wireman.

Senior JD Cooley was pleased with the performance saying, “It was a great way to end the season, it should give us good momentum going into the district tournament.”

The Rebels’ next game will be a district tournament game against the Lincoln County Patriots. If they win that, they will take on the winner of Danville and Garrard County for the district championship.

Rebels Have Mercy on Mercer

The game was over before we knew it! Last Thursday our Girls Soccer team took mercy upon the Titans by ending the game in the first half at our Rebel stadium.

Our girls came out with intensity and scored 3 goals in 3 minutes, setting the ball rolling for a fast-paced game. Throughout the rest of the half the girls were racking up goal after goal.

The ball hardly crossed over towards the Rebel’s half of the field, and the girls did an amazing job at keeping pressure on Mercer’s defense. With about under five minutes left in the game, Raegan Britt broke away to score the 1oth and final goal and secure the Rebels’ win. After finishing out the rest of the half, the game ended 10-0 for the Rebs!

Ellee kendrick said “we dominated as a team and put the game away in the first half, i’m very proud of my team.”

The next game is on Tuesday against Southwestern.

From Football to Fútbol: Boyle vs Corbin

Though in the past we have normally seen Boyle and Corbin go head-to-head in a football game, they clashed on Thursday in a boys soccer matchup.

This was no ordinary game; this was senior night for the Rebels. The four seniors were Matthew Britt, JD Cooley, Jackson Pass, and Breydon Hatter.

The game was kicked off by the injured senior Breydon Hatter, playing in the last game of his high school career. Soon after, senior Matthew Britt opened the scoring column for the night, making it 1-0. A couple of minutes later, JD Cooley tapped one in to score the first goal of his senior night. Then, fellow senior Jackson Pass finished an outside of the boot shot to make the score 3-0. Next, with 26 minutes left in the first half, Cooley scored again and made it 4-0. Boyle was still not done, and Bo Little scored on a free kick to set the score to 5-0. Then, Cooley earned a hattrick when he extended the lead to 6-0. With the final goal of the half, Alan Wireman finished off of a rebound and made it 7-0.

In the second half, there was a considerable dropoff in the action. Nobody scored and the game ended at 7-0, in favor of the Rebels. This was a fantastic senior night for all involved! The next game is at home vs Sayre on Tuesday, September 26.
