Boys Soccer 2A Run Ends

On Saturday, the boys soccer team faced DeSales in the 2A Final Four.

The match was very low-scoring, but both teams had chances in the first half. The majority went DeSales way, but due to a lack of finishing, the first half ended 0-0.

The second half however, was pure pandemonium. Both teams had multiple chances to score, but again nobody was able to beat the two goalkeepers. The defining moment of the game was when Boyle County recieved a red card, and DeSales scored on the ensuing corner kick. With only a handfull of minutes left in the game, the Rebels were unable to find an equalizer. The game ended 1-0, and DeSales was the winner.

Talking about the game, goalkeeper McClain Denny said, “It was an unfortunate loss. One we really wanted to win. But we had chances of our own so we have nobody to blame but us. Now we have to move on and focus on the rest of the season.”

The season isn’t over for the boys soccer team, and their next game is Tuesday at Lincoln County.

In the second half, Bryan Station was awarded a penalty early, which they calmly slotted away to take the lead. But Boyle didn’t take long to respond, and Matthew Britt equalized on a breakaway. With the score 1-1, both teams were really going for a second goal. Alas, Bryan Station was the one to get it. The game ended with the score 2-1 in favor of Bryan Station.

Talking about the game, Max Kilby said, “Unfortunately the game didn’t go our way, but we can now focus on the 2A semifinals this weekend.”

As Max Kilby said, the Rebels’ next game is Saturday against DeSales in the 2A State Semifinals in Owensboro. If the Rebels win, they will play Sunday against the winner of Warren Central and Rowan County.
