The Rebels fall to the Warriors

This past Tuesday, the Boyle County boys basketball team took on 45th District rival Danville Christian Academy.

In their first match-up early on this year, DCA came out with the win, but the game was neck and neck until the fourth quarter. Neither team shot well this night and football players were still getting back into basketball shape.

This game was hyped up very much, as DCA is undefeated in the Region and Boyle was on a seven game winning streak. Both sides showed out for the doubleheader, as DCA packed their side of the stands and Boyle packed theirs and the student section filled in. Despite Boyle having the home advantage, DCA was the louder crowd during the game.

During warm-ups, a new face for the Warriors was dressed and ready to play, Geu Ateny; Another player over 6 ’10 added to DCA’s team. Coming into this game Titus Boyd and Emmanuel Dut led the team in scoring, and Lual Ayiei led the team in rebounding. The Rebels came out with a face that was new to DCA as well. Seneca Driver, who did not play in the first match-up. He led the team in FG% and rebounds, and Quisenberry and Brown led in points.

To start the game, DCA won the tip off and took a quick lead, but Boyle stuck right there with them, and soon took a lead by 2 points off of a Quisenberry three pointer.

Boyle then struggled the rest of the quarter down 19-9 at the end of the 1st. Boyle made a comeback in the second quarter out scoring DCA 17-10. Going into the half DCA led 29-26.

During the first half, Boyle shot the ball very well from behind the arch shooting 44.5%. Seneca Driver had four points, four rebounds, and one block. Quisenberry led the team with 12 points going into the half. DCA took a few bad lob passes to cause turnovers and lead to Boyle points. Emmanuel Dut had 13 points and Ateny had five rebounds. They shot 57% from the three point line and 44% from the field.

At the start of the third half both teams came back out and adjusted their mistakes from the first half. This led to a close game in the third as DCA only outscored Boyle 12-11. Going into the 4th DCA led Boyle 41-37. Boyle kept it close the rest of the game, but couldn’t fight back into a lead. DCA took a District win 50-44.

The Rebels did not have a great shooting half as they went 26.3% from the field putting them at 33.3% on the game, and they shot 20% (2/10) from the three point line. This was 24.4% lower than the first half. Motavin Quisenberry had a great game as he scored two clutch threes at the end of two quarters to keep Boyle in the game. He had 20 points and four rebounds on the night. Seneca Driver also had a great game even though his stats did not show it. He had six points, four rebounds, and two assists.

DCA had a great game, but during the second half, after shooting 57% from the field, they shot 0% (0/4) in the second half. Emmanuel Dut had 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists. The new player for DCA, Geu Ateny, had a breakout game with four points and 13 rebounds.

The Rebels have finished up their district season play, but still have a big region opponent this coming Saturday at 6PM and will travel to Pulaski to take on the pirates.

Rebels claw out a win against the Golden Lions

On Friday, the Garrard County Golden Lions drove up to Rebel Arena to take on the Boyle County Rebels in the second game of a girl/boy doubleheader. This was a huge night for Boyle County Athletics, as it was Senior Night and Hall of Fame Night!

Seniors Avery Bodner and Lance Slone started the game, along with Quisenberry, Brown, and Turner. The Rebels started off slow, with an 11-9 lead after the first quarter. Lance Slone hit a layup to put the Rebels up early in the 2nd.

This is where things did a complete 180. The Rebels went on 26-2 run in the 2nd quarter, putting the Golden Lions away early. The Rebels played incredible defense on Garrard’s leading scorer, Jaydon Noe, averaging 16 points per game. He shot 3/19 from the field, chipping in only 8 points.

The third quarter was more of the same, with the Rebels extending their lead by eight points. The Rebels took out the starters by the three minute mark in the fourth quarter while being up 38, and the game slowed down because of that. The Rebels outscored Garrard County 5-2 in the fourth, and came out winners with a score of 62-25.

Senior Avery Bodner performed superbly in his Senior Night, scoring 16 points on 50% shooting along with six rebounds. The Rebels Sweep the Admirals

Boyle took on district rival Danville this past Tuesday. This rivalry goes back a long time in all sports whether it be football, basketball, baseball, soccer, or anything else.

The Rebels won the first match-up at Danville 60-40. Today they carried their record against Danville this season to 2-0. Boyle took a lead almost the whole game and ended up winning the game 64-38.

Quisenberry led the team with 16 points, but Seneca Driver was right behind him with 15. Both Seneca and Brock Driver led the team with 7 rebounds each.

Boyle takes a big district win at home against their rival, but the district rivals are not over yet as they will now take on Garrard County this Friday on Senior Night and Hall of Fame Night!

Rebels Squash the Patriots

The Rebels drove down to Stanford on Friday night to seek revenge against the Lincoln County Patriots. Earlier in the season, Blade Nuckols hit a game winner to give Lincoln a 62-59 win over Boyle.

Since then, the Rebels had won four straight heading into this rivalry game, and Lincoln had won three of four heading into Friday night. This win would be a huge momentum boost for both teams to make a postseason push.

Neither team shot particularly well, but throughout the game it seemed like Boyle County made shots when necessary. Lincoln County wasn’t always able to capitalize on opportunities to cut the lead down to below 10.

The Rebels maintained their lead throughout almost the entire game, and pulled out a 41-32 win on the road. Montavin Quisenberry led the Rebels in scoring with 17 points, with Seneca Driver adding 8 and Demauriah Brown chipping in seven.

The Rebels played stellar defense, limiting the Patriots to a rough 18.4% from the field. They held Blade Nuckols to 1-10 shooting from three, which is very rare. He ended up scoring 14 of their 32 points, and went 7-8 from the field. Lincoln shot 2-19 from three and had to find other ways to score.

The Rebels take on crosstown rival Danville at home on Tuesday.
