Rebels Face a Rocky Road in Rockcastle

The Boyle County Boys Basketball headed down to Rockcastle County to take on the Rockets in a 12th region game. They were the second region opponent that Boyle has faced this season. This was the second game of a Girl/Boy doubleheader against Rockcastle.

Boyle started out slow, facing a 17-10 deficit by the end of the first quarter. Shots weren’t falling early, and it took a while for them to get going.

By halftime, the Rebels were down 40-24. Shots weren’t falling for the Rebels, but they were definitely falling for the Rockets. The Rebels cut it to 10 at the end of the third, after a small comeback.

Heading into the 4th, the Rebels kept fighting and tied the game up towards the end. The Rebels had a chance to tie the game on the last play, and couldn’t convert. The Rockets ended up winning 64-61.

The Rebels were led in scoring by Guy Turner with 15, Montavin Quisenberry with 13, and Avery Bodner with 11. Bodner also had 7 rebound, shooting 56% from the field.

Boyle heads to Central Hardin on Saturday to take on the Bruins.

The Rebels Take Down the Thorobreds

This past Saturday, December 9, the Boys Basketball team took on Harrison County in the first round of the 2A Section 5 tournament. The teams competing in this section are Western Hills, Harrison County, and Lexington Catholic.

The boys started off very even with Harrison as they played the first quarter and tied at the end of the quarter 12-12. Boyle then took the lead in the second half 27-24. Maddox Hager had 6 points and Damauriah Brown had 8.

 

In the third quarter, the teams offense started to catch a spark, outscoring them 21-6 and taking a lead of 48-30 at the end of the quarter. Guy Turner had 10 points in the third quarter. Boyle kept their lead and won the first game of the 2A Section 5 62-52.

 

A few outstanding players during this game were Damauriah Brown, Maddox Hager, and Guy Turner. Brown scored 18 points going ⅓ from the field, but 4/4 from downtown. He also went 4/4 from the freethrow line. Hager went 7/11 from the field scoring 14 points. Turner did not shoot well, but scored 15 points and went ⅚ from the free throw line.

 

The team had all football players back and took their first win of the season to bring them to 1-2 on the season. The teams next game is a double header Tuesday, December 12, against Rockcastle at their gym.

Boys basketball fights hard against the Warriors

The Boyle County Boys Basketball Team took on the Southwestern Warriors on Monday night. The Rebels came into this game with a 0-1 record, and Southwestern was 3-0.

This game was a rollercoaster, with the lead going back and forth all game. Boyle started 5 freshmen, and Southwestern took a quick 12 point lead in the 1st quarter.

Coach Dennie Webb slowly brought in some substitutions and the game quickly turned around. By the end of the 3rd quarter, the game was tied after a Kylar Goodin half-court swish.

The 4th quarter was very physical, and the Warriors made a 3-point play with 7.3 seconds left to take the lead. The Rebels had an inbounds play drawn up with 1.5 seconds left, and a quick 5-second call was made. This was a turnover, and the Warriors dribbled out the clock to head home with a 61-59 win.

A lot of Boyle County’s players returned from football season in this game and made an immediate impact. Lyndon Smith led the team in scoring with 10 points on 5-9 shooting. Maddox Hager scored 9, Avery Bodner and Josh Bixler both had 6, and Guy Turner had 5. Bixler guarded Southwestern’s best players and brought great intensity to the game.

Harper Webb and Collier Sexton both had brilliant games as freshmen. Webb scored 8 points, including 2 threes. Sexton also scored 8 points, shooting 50% from the 3-point line, and grabbed 2 rebounds.

For the Warriors, Zachary Hutchinson dropped 23 points and 10 rebounds. Connor Hudson scored 17 points and grabbed 4 boards.

The Rebels don’t play again until Saturday, when they head to Harrison County to play in the 2A Sectional Tournament.

Rebels take a tough loss on season opener

Yesterday, the Boyle County Boys Basketball Team had their season opener game against Adair County.

Boyle does not have most of their players as they are still competing in football for the 4A State Championship this Friday, December 1st. 

Boyle started the game off rough, down 25-8 at the end of the 1st quarter. Boyle kept falling behind and by half it was 54-15. Adair held the lead the rest of the game with 77-42 as the final score.

Boyle will take on Southwestern next Monday, December 4th at home.
