Stewarts take third on tough day at Laurel Lake

This past Saturday, the Boyle County bass fishing team competed in the KBN GRC Trail Stop #4 on Laurel Lake. This would be the last tournament to gain points in the competition for Angler of the Year for the GRC trail.

Laurel Lake is very tough for new anglers that have not practiced there before and haven’t had time on the water there. Most Boyle teams struggled to catch fish this weekend as it was tough for almost all teams.

Coleman and Keenan Stewart have been dominating the competition in tournaments recently, taking second place last week in a tournament and now taking third place this past weekend with four fish that weighed 8.77 pounds.

Keenan Stewart said, “It was a slow day, but we were able to put together a bag as the day went on.”

Only 20 boats out of the field of about 60 boats weighed a fish in the tournament. Another Boyle team, Cameron Burchett and Joshua Kernodle took seventh place with a weight of 5.08 pounds. Allie Addison and Abigail Short took 18th with one pound and Kyler Claunch and Micah Mayes took 19th with .96 of a pound.

The bass fishing team’s season will be over for a while, but they will return on March 23 to start fishing again on Lake Cumberland.
