Day one of region tournament reaps success for boys tennis

The boys tennis team started their individual regional tournament campaigns on Monday, with the Rebels sending out two singles players and two doubles teams in hopes of qualifying for the state tournament. If a team/player makes the semifinals, they qualify for the state tournament.

Starting with doubles, Caleb Sutton and Jacob King, the number four overall seeds, received a bye and then won a quick match, 6-1 6-0 against a tandem from Casey County. Ethan Drake and Bryar Bentley lost a close match in the first round, 5-7 6(1)-7.

In singles, Mason Young and Sean Guiney both won their first round matches 6-0 6-0. Young, the number five overall seed, headed into the next round to play against one of Somerset Christian’s singles players. Young won 6-1 7-5 after a thrilling second set. Sean Guiney upset the number two overall seed from West Jessamine in a third set super tiebreaker, 6-1 0-6 10-7. This was one of the best endings to a match so far during this tournament.

Young commented on the achievements of the team saying he was, “Glad to have three teams/players moving on to the quarterfinals! The goal is still the state tournament.”

In the quarterfinals on Thursday, Sutton/King will take on Wayne County’s top doubles team. Sean Guiney will take on Danville’s top singles player, while Mason Young will take on the number four overall seed from Pulaski County.

Rebel recap: Winning weekend!

The Rebels had a busy weekend of baseball this past week!

On Friday night, the boys played at home against the Marion County Knights. In a close game, the Rebels came out on top with a final score of 6-5.

The next day, the Revels came out on Saturday ready to play. They traveled to Campbellsville to take on the Eagles and secured the win 11-5.

The Rebels play again on Monday night at Washington County against the Commanders. Show out to watch the game at 5:30PM!

Tough losses at the Tylar Missbach Memorial Showcase

On Saturday, the Boyle County Rebels Softball team honored former player, Tylar Missbach, who lost her life in a car accident shortly after high school.

The 2014 graduate played right field and her favorite color was purple. The current Rebels honored her memory by participating in a moment of silence and releasing purple balloons out of right field.

The first game they played was against Notre Dame out of Northern Kentucky. This game was a tough match, with the score being 2-0 going into the seventh inning. They had a rough inning at the end. Some miscommunication gave up three runs, making the score 5-0 going into the bottom of the seventh. The Rebels struggled behind the plate stringing hits together and couldn’t seem to put up any runs.

The second game was a thriller against Louisville Eastern. The Rebels came out with a better attitude and came out swinging. They held the lead of 1-0 all the way up to the seventh inning where they fell apart again, giving up five runs in the top of the seventh. Again during the seventh, they couldn’t find a way to fight back and ended up losing 1-5.

It was a rough weekend for the Rebels and they really struggled at bat. They will be using these losses as motivation going into next week. They play two more games before the postseason: Home vs. North Laurel on May 14th and Away vs Central Hardin on May 16th. Good luck to these ladies this week!

Rebels come out strong against the Eagles

On Friday, the Boyle County Rebels invited over the Lexington Christian Eagles.

The Eagles brought in three runs in the top of the fourth, holding great defense and offense against the Rebels. They scored two more runs in the fifth inning. However, the Rebels had enough. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Katie Qualls brought in their first run of the game.

Then, with Addie Cannon on base, senior Cambry Cheek hit a home run bringing in two more runs.

With little action in the sixth inning, the seventh inning got very competitive. The Eagles brought in one more run, having them up by three. But Cheek did not come to play, hitting her second home run of the game with loaded bases. She brought in runs from Miley Finley, Katie Qualls, and Callie Mauldin, winning the game 7-6.
