Cheer wins first regional title since 2017!!!

This Saturday, the Boyle County Cheerleading team traveled to Montgomery County High School to compete in the Region 6 Game Day Small division.

After a one and a half hour bus ride full of singing, dancing, and chatting, the girls came in with all the energy they needed to take the floor. In this division, Boyle went up against three other teams: Danville High School, Garrard County High School, and Danville Christian Academy.

Boyle was last in the line up and the girls went out and put their whole heart into the routine, trying to be louder and more engaging than any of the teams that performed before them.

The game day routine is made up of four components: the band chant, fight song, situational sideline cheer, and crowd leading cheer. The judges also give the team a score based on the overall impression of the performance. The raw performance earned Boyle a score of 73.5 before deductions were taken off for mistakes made in the routine such as falling stunts, of which Boyle had one five point deduction.

Boyle scored higher than the other three teams in their division to win the Region 6 Championship!

“I felt very shocked and excited,” said Senior Baker Rose Wilson. “I am so happy to be a part of a team that works so hard and I can’t wait to watch our team grow as we prepare for State!”

The cheerleaders compete again this weekend in the UCA Bluegrass Region competition, separate from the KHSAA competitions, at Central Bank Center at 2:53 pm on Saturday. And then it’s off to State on Friday, December 8 at George Rogers Clark High School!
