Four Goals Sink the Maroons

On Tuesday, the boys soccer team played against the Pulaski County Maroons.

The Rebels started out with a bang, scoring within the first 5 minutes, as a result of Alan Wireman firing it home from the backpost.  Just a few minutes later, Bo Little doubled the lead with a rifle of a shot. In the final minutes of the first half, Little made it a brace with an incredible volley into the top corner. The score going into halftime was Boyle County 3, Pulaski County 0.

The second half was a lot less open than the first, but Alan Wireman was able to lift the ball over the incoming goalkeeper’s hands, and into the back of the net. That was the final scoring play of the night, as the game ended 4-0 in the Rebels’ favor. Alan Wireman and Bo Little both ended up with 2 goals, Jackson Pass had 3 assists, and Matthew Britt had 1.

Commenting on the team’s performance, Alan Wireman said, “It wasn’t always pretty but I’m glad we were able to grab another win. Our focus shifts to the next game.”

The Rebels improve to 4-5 on the season, with the next game coming Thursday against their cross-town rivals, the Danville Admirals.

Volleyball brings home a victory against Garrard County!

The volleyball team faced off against Garrard County last night at 7:30. These ladies have been working hard and were coming off playing multiple matches the previous weekend. They currently hold a record of 8-5 and have a 5 game winning streak.

The Rebels started off strong against their district opponent, the Golden Lions. They played tight defense and were able to make some smart plays to get the extra points in the first set. Junior, Kendra Christopher came in clutch with some big kills to help her team out. The first set went to the Rebels, 25-11. Some miscommunication during the second set caused the Rebels to fall just short at 25-23. The energy was brought back up in the third set when our Rebels displayed some stellar volleyball! Some awesome sets by Teague and E. Young set the Rebels up for success! The Rebels took the third set 25-17 and really got the momentum going.

The Lions were put in a tough position going into the 4th set. They were trailing 2-1 and needed to win this set or else they would be going home. They took advantage of the opportunity and really gave it their all on the court. They ended up securing the 4th set 25-23 to clutch the victory!

When asked about her game last night, junior Kendra Christopher says, “Garrard County ended up taking a set from us because their defense was played very well and they ended up executing together. However, we did end up winning in four sets. This was a big district game for us and I’m really proud of our team for working together and pulling through.”

The Lady Rebels play again this Thursday against Mercer County at 7:30pm. Be sure to go cheer on these hard working ladies!
